Barrier

Perhaps it's best to avoid trying to duck under barriers

A study by British Transport Police has found that middle aged women are more likely than boy racers to jump red lights and attempt to duck under barriers as they lower.

The study came about after the British Transport Police sent out a marked van to observe 43 crossings across south east England; which led to the prosecution of 1,131 motorists.

Women aged 50 to 65 were responsible for 27 per cent of these offences and men of the same age were responsible for 19 per cent. Whilst middle aged drivers were accountable for almost half of these incidents it might surprise you to find that male drivers aged 17 to 25 accounted for only 8 per cent of them and drivers of over 65 just 2 per cent.

So a word of advice for all you motorists out there; it is probably not the greatest idea to attempt to achieve any of these challenges, the BTP van might just be watching…

A Man Pumping Petrol Into A Car

Soaring petrol prices mean Hybrids now make even more economic sense.

Website thegreencarwebsite has found that an average of £500 per anum can be saved through upgrading to a Hybrid.

The results state motorists that travel 10,000 miles a year can save the amount due to the soaring price of petrol.

So whilst the price of such a car may have previously been putting you off, perhaps the revelation that buying one would make economic as well as environmental sense could encourage you to test drive a brand new hybrid!

Intelligent Traffic Lights Are Being Tested In Swindon

Intelligent Traffic Lights Are Being Tested In Swindon

Traffic lights that turn red if approaching drivers are speeding are to be tested in Swindon.

The town which removed all of its speed cameras not long ago will be the testing ground for this new concept.

Drivers who are speeding will be caught out by a sensor before the traffic lights which will send a message to a control box causing them to turn red.

As well as targeting speeding drivers, the sensors will be able to recognise the number plates of emergency vehicles allowing them to pass through the lights uninterrupted.
